The Swedish Pirate Party is Crowdfunding for European Campaign

The Swedish Pirate Party is Crowdfunding for European CampaignJust as the Australian Pirates were celebrating their crowdfunding success we received news that the Swedish Pirates are pursuing a similar fundraising effort for the European Parliament elections with a page where Pirates (and other supporters) can make targeted donations. Currently there are 13 different options to donate to at and in less than a week they have gathered ~5000 Euros through their crowdfunding campaign.

Those who donate will be rewarded with everything from a guaranteed place at the election night party, election posters (autographed by top candidates) or a dinner alone with the party leader. If the total donated amount exceeds SEK 3, 000, 000 (nearly EUR400, 000) there might also be a “Wrecking Ball” video. Two of the campaigns have already been fully donated.

Even though the Swedish Pirate Party has two MEPs, they receive no government financial support for national elections as they are not in the Swedish government.

I joined the Pirate Party of Lower Saxony in Germany in April 2012, once I found out that non citizens were welcome to join and become active members of the Party. I joined the Pirate Times soon after it was started and am now an editor and writer. Since then I have returned to my native New Zealand and joined the Pirate Party of New Zealand. Politically I come from the libertarian left and have, up to now, not regarded any political party as having a solution for the democratic deficit that envelops the world. With the advent of the Pirate Party, which truly embraces grass roots democracy, I have found a political home. The Pirate Times is a way I can contribute to furthering the Pirate Movement around the world. Skype: frithogar
